Transitioning into Fall Fashion

Posted by Liah Escobedo on Sep 19th 2025

As we transition from warm days in the sun to 5 p.m. sunsets and cozy sweaters, it’s important to find outfits that are not only versatile for the changing climate but also embrace the autumn aesthetic. I’m excited to share my tips for making your transition into fall a seamless one!

With shorter days and cooler temperatures, I tend to gravitate toward muted shades of orange, red, and brown—colors that reflect the changing leaves and seasonal vibes. I slowly shift my closet from bright summer hues to more subdued tones. For casual days, I throw on a basic tee and black jeans. But when I want to elevate the look, I reach for a long trench coat. It adds elegance while keeping me warm.

Over the summer, I developed a love for scarves while traveling to colder places. Scarves became a fun way to layer and experiment with different colors and patterns. I especially enjoy pairing them with short-sleeve tops—they add just the right amount of warmth without feeling heavy or restrictive. Stores like Plato’s Closet offer a great selection of scarves in various lengths and prints, perfect for adding flair to a simple outfit without breaking the bank.

A woman is taking a selfie from an overhead angle while standing on a grassy field. She is wearing a dark leather jacket over a brown top, a multicolored scarf, and sunglasses resting on her head. Her arm is extended outward holding the camera.  A woman is sitting on tall grass near a wire fence in a green pasture. She is wearing a dark leather jacket and dark pants, with hands resting on her knees. In the background, a brown horse is in the field, and there are trees along the horizon under a cloudy sky.

Cardigans are another favorite for cozy autumn vibes. I prefer lightweight cardigans or ones with open-knit designs—they’re breathable and stylish. During peak sun hours, I like to drape my cardigan over my shoulders like a blanket. It’s a versatile and comfy addition for days when the temperature fluctuates.

And of course, boots! They’re a fun and practical way to complete any fall outfit. I love using them to hide thick socks while adding a touch of mystery and coziness to my look.

I hope this inspires you to start curating your fall wardrobe with pieces that are both functional and fashionable!
