Style Change-Up

Posted by Liah Escobedo on May 16th 2024

As spring comes to an end, I’m thinking ahead to the fun plans I have over the summer! While I think about my summer plans, I’m also putting together outfits for all my summer outings. Normally my summer uniform consists of a light-colored tank top and jeans but I want to mix it up this year and try styles that are out of my comfort zone.

I love the y2k maxi skirt and boho top look. It’s perfect to keep cool in the months of heat that we get in my home of So-Cal. I always wanted to get into this aesthetic but I never knew if I was doing it right, which I think holds a lot of us back from trying new things. But I tried it and felt super comfortable and got a lot of compliments! I found this ribbed long sleeve at Plato’s Closet that’s perfect for cool summer days with random breezes. I paired it with a long black skirt and combat boots. As the weather gets warmer, I’ll switch the boots out for sandals.

I see a lot of trends focusing on the “grandpa look,” so I found a cool blue and white striped button-up and paired it with some jorts. Seeing mid-thigh jorts come back into style makes me happy since they are so cute and comfortable! The flowy top was great for a cool breeze, while also being a perfect layer for the drop in temperatures that happens around sunset. I finished this look off with a white tank top and matching sneakers, which completed the “grandpa” vibe.

As someone who embraces feminine patterns and designs, I rarely style looks for the sporty side of myself. Lately, I’ve been noticing a trend of track pants and small tops coming back into style, which I used to wear frequently on the way to track meets. I decided to go for a mostly black-and-white look with track pants, shoes, and accessories. The shirt added a dusty pink pop of color and I really liked how it complemented the rest of the outfit. I was super comfortable while also feeling super fashionable!

As someone who leans toward basic pieces and bright feminine colors, tapping into different styles and colors turned out to compliment my skin very well! I recommend that everyone finds pieces that are different from what they have in their closet. Plato’s Closet is a great place to go for style inspiration. Have fun with fashion while learning what makes you feel comfortable and confident!
