How I Style Denim Without Overthinking It

Denim is just one of those things. Like pizza or iced coffee—always reliable, never goes out of style, and somehow makes you feel better about life.
Right now, I’ve got a little denim rotation going:
- Straight-leg – when I want to look like I have my life together (even if I don’t).
- Baggy or cargos – for “I definitely didn’t try but still look cool” energy.
- Flared or bootcut – when I’m feeling bold or just watched a throwback music video.
The fun part is mixing them into real, wearable outfits. Think cargos with a vintage tee and sneakers for a run-around-the-city fit. Or flared jeans with a tucked-in knit when I’m feeling a little elevated (but still comfy enough for a sandwich run).
And yes, I do rock the denim-on-denim look (aka the Canadian tuxedo). The trick? Don’t make it too matchy. Mix washes, throw on a white tee, or add accessories that make it clear you knew exactly what you were doing—even if you didn’t… ( your secret's safe with me)
If you’re building a wardrobe that makes sense for everyday life, denim is your ride-or-die. It’s comfy, timeless, and somehow works for brunch and errands. I thrift a lot of mine from Plato’s Closet—where you can find jeans that feel brand new, for less than your DoorDash total. When I need to dress to impress, or I’m just itching for a new piece, Plato’s Closet is always my go to!
Moral of the story? Don’t overthink it. Just find the fits you love and build around them. Denim’s meant to be worn your way.
