From Summer to Fall: Essential Tips for Creating a Versatile Wardrobe

Posted by Liah Escobedo on Aug 22nd 2024

With the back-to-school season upon us and fall weather approaching, it’s crucial to update our wardrobes to be stylish and comfortable for the changing conditions. My closet is either filled with tank tops for summer or warm thick sweaters for the winter with very little clothing for the transitional phases of the year. This used to be a struggle, but I've figured out how to transform my closet to offer versatile combinations for any occasion or season.

My first tip, which I find most important, is to identify a versatile go-to piece that effortlessly enhances any outfit. Black compliments any color, which is why I love to wear my favorite black skirt all year long! It’s loose enough for summer to keep me cool, yet soft enough for the crisp autumn days. Find a color that serves as a foundation for any outfit you choose to create!

During the school year, I style this skirt with a black tank top for comfort during busy days, but I also love pairing it with a vibrant top for special occasions, like a concert!

I also love having pieces that dress up or dress down an outfit. As mentioned before, how you put an outfit together is what makes it unique. I’ve been focusing on adding versatile elements, such as sweaters, open blouses, and accessories, to transform one outfit into many. Plato’s Closet is the perfect place to find gently used pieces that I can use to create various outfits. They offer a diverse selection of clothing for you to explore, with fresh inventory arriving regularly. I enjoy adding vests, which provide the perfect balance of warmth and style for any outfit, regardless of the season.

My final takeaway is to embrace and make the most of the items you already have! Always try to get good use out of the pieces you know and love before purchasing new ones. Work with the items in your closet, explore and express your creativity, and don’t forget to have fun!
