Fashion Looks in Memory Lane

Posted by Liah Escobedo on Jul 25th 2025

Looking back at childhood photos is such a beautiful experience in every way. It’s heartwarming to see how much has changed—and what parts of you have stayed the same.

To create a little time capsule of then and now, I decided to recreate one of my favorite childhood school photos! I didn’t have the same green top, but I found a similar one that represents who I am today, along with a hairstyle that reflects my longer hair!

Looking back at this childhood photo, I’ve always loved fashion and bright colors. Although my school had uniforms, there were occasional days—especially the first day—when we could wear non-uniform clothing. Back-to-school season meant adding a few new pieces to my wardrobe, repurposing what I already had to be cost-effective for my family, and expressing my personal style in the process!

Wearing all my favorite colors in one outfit, loving pink dresses, and enjoying fun patterns and graphics on my shirts—fashion was something that truly excited me. I always followed my heart when it came to style! Here’s a photo of me in one of my favorite childhood dresses.

As the years have gone by, I’ve evolved my wardrobe to reflect my current age and the trends around me. It’s pretty cool to see that I still wear a lot of flowy tops like this floral one I paired with jean skirt and tights. This was something I loved wearing when I was five years old. Lately, new trends have been inspired by the early 2000s, the era of my childhood, which greatly influenced my childhood style.

Going to Plato’s Closet helps me find items that fit the trends resurfacing from decades ago in a sustainable and often are slightly used pieces made during that time period. As a young kid going back to school, I was always excited to wear flowy dresses, and this yellow one I recently picked up reminds me of my childhood.

If you’re feeling nostalgic too, why not take a walk down memory lane with your own style? Recreate a favorite childhood outfit or pick up a piece that reminds you of what made getting dressed so fun back then. Whether it’s a colorful top, a flowy dress, or a piece that speaks to your past and present, you can find those meaningful, trend-forward styles at Plato’s Closet—affordable, sustainable, and full of personality, just like your childhood self.
