Doing Your Part for World Water Day

Doing Your Part for World Water Day

Posted by Liah Escobedo on Mar 7th 2025

The transition from winter to spring this year has been interesting where I’m from—one day it’s raining, and the next feels like a glimpse of summer! As we prepare to swap out our wardrobes, it’s important to be mindful of sustainability and make intentional choices for the future. With World Water Day approaching on March 22, 2025, here are some tips to help minimize your water usage.

The production of a single fashion garment can require hundreds to thousands of liters of water, contributing significantly to the high demand for resources in the fashion industry. Repurposing your clothes to match different occasions and weather conditions is super important! It's so much fun to have versatile basics that serve as a foundation for dressing up throughout the seasons! Personally, I love having a simple black top that I can style with a statement piece, like a lace or mesh overlay.

I also love prioritizing second-hand shopping over fast fashion! It’s a great way to donate or sell your gently used items and give them a new life while also discovering high-quality pieces with a lower carbon footprint. Plato’s Closet is a great place to buy and sell clothes, helping you do your part in reducing water usage in fashion. They have a great selection of jeans, which is especially important since denim production is a major contributor to water consumption in the fashion industry!

I always trust Plato’s Closet when it comes to finding perfect and fun denim pieces that will last me a long time!

Besides being mindful of your clothing consumption, it’s also important to do your part in reducing water usage. Simple actions like taking shorter showers and turning off the sink when it's not in use can make a big difference!

I hope this inspires you to be more mindful of your environmental impact—on World Water Day and beyond!
