A Day in My Life & How I Keep My Style on a Budget

Posted by Gabriel Saint Elien on May 19th 2025

Hey! I’m Gabe, a 23-year-old content creator based in Philly. I’ve been living the full-time creative life since 2024. Whether I’m styling fits, hunting for hidden gems while thrifting, or soaking up art around the city, I’m always chasing inspiration. One day, I see myself in an even bigger city, making an even bigger impact—but for now, I’m focused on telling stories that inspire others and enjoying every step of the journey.

Most days for me start with a giant iced coffee (homemade, of course — we’re on a budget here). I usually roll out of bed around 8, scroll for a bit (guilty), and then dive into work. As a content creator, my day can involve anything from shooting videos and writing scripts to planning out posts and editing videos. It’s creative and chaotic, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

When I’m not glued to my laptop or phone, I’m probably squeezing in a quick tennis session or hanging out with friends. Oh, and thrifting — definitely part of the weekly routine. It’s part hobby, part therapy, and absolutely how I keep my style fresh without blowing my budget.

Speaking of budgets, I try to keep things pretty simple. I track my spending in my notes app and set mini-limits for things like coffee, food, and clothes of course.

Now, the real secret is secondhand shopping. Plato’s Closet is honestly a goldmine for me with on-trend pieces without the retail price tag. I’ve found brand-name jeans, oversized graphic tees, and even new-with-tags items that easily go with my style. It’s all about being patient and knowing your style so you don’t get overwhelmed.

If you're trying to save money on fashion, here’s what’s worked for me:

  • Know your style vibe so you don’t buy random stuff just because it’s cheap.
  • Shop with a list or mood board in mind.
  • Sell or trade old clothes at Plato’s Closet so you’re not constantly spending out of pocket.

Style doesn’t have to be expensive — you just have to be smart about it. And let’s be real: there’s something kind of iconic about pulling off a fire outfit knowing it cost less than your lunch.
